Always

December 30th, 2005

"You were always on my mind…" croons Presley in his amazing vocals. No doubt about it, the song matched this entry, totally. Which.. brings us back to the ultimate question: How long is forever?

"I will ALWAYS love you."

"I love you, FOREVER and ever, until the end of time."

Damn, it sounds downright cheesy to me but hey that’s not the point. Does forever lasts for a fortnight? No, those are temporary, or transient, fleeting promises. Not to mention feeble too. Or does forever lasts as long as it will be? Or maybe till the day I die? Not everyone is bestowed with far-seeing-future-predicting psychic abilities. I know that. Alright, I’m really sorry to have to break this to you: I think, forever is pretty much overrated. Many utilize this much misunderstood word to attain credibility, offer some form of seemingly real and concrete guarantee or both at the same time. Or perhaps it was just a declaration of love in an outburst of overflowing passion and no more. And what’s with the ‘you WERE always on my mind?’ Were? Is that a past tense? If you think I’m being cynical and distrustful, I do not blame you. You are of course, entitled to your own say. ‘Forever’ has sparked hopes in many a vulnerable souls. There are people out there who really meant it when they say ‘forever’. Maybe.. a handful of em? However, do not blame me when you find out ‘forever’ isn’t such a beautiful word, not anymore. I refrain from using these words, these are powerful words which, if used incorrectly, could result in dire consequences. I implore you, do think before you utter these words. You could save yourself AND others from uncalled-for troubles when things don’t go your way.

P/S: Comments/flames are welcomed. (Though the latter interests me more) By the way, happy new year! =)
